Hong Kong Customs seizes 10 kilogrammes of cocaine in Yau Ma Tei (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs officers mounted an anti-narcotics operation last night (March 29) in Yau Ma Tei and Mong Kok. Two local men were intercepted in a building in Pitt Street and one kilogramme of cocaine was found on one of the men. Nine kilogrammes of cocaine were found in a flat of the building. The estimated street value of the drug seized is about $10,370,000.

     The two men, aged 34 and 36, claiming to be a security guard and a driver, were each charged with two counts of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Fanling Magistrates' Courts next Monday (April 1).

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence and the maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
