SCS visits Islands District (with photos)
*****************************************

The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Paul Tang, today (March 28) visited Tung Chung to learn more about the development of the district and to meet with Islands District Council members to strengthen communication.

Accompanied by the Chairman of the Islands District Council, Mr Chow Yuk-tong, and the District Officer (Islands), Mr Anthony Li, Mr Tang visited two separate sites overlooking Tung Chung East and Tung Chung West to see for himself the latest developments and future planning in the area, including the transport infrastructure, the proposed development near the waterfront in Tung Chung East and the public housing development projects in Tung Chung Areas 39 and 56.

Briefed by the District Planning Officer/Sai Kung and Islands, Mr Ivan Chung, Mr Tang noted that given the strategic location of Tung Chung and the several adjoining large-scale infrastructure projects in the pipeline, such as the Hong Kong Link Road and Boundary Crossing Facilities of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the Tuen Mun-Chek Lap Kok Link, Tung Chung possesses the potential to develop into an attractive regional shopping and tourism spot.

Mr Tang was glad to see the Government's enhanced efforts to explore the further development of Tung Chung, increase housing land supply and provide more land for commercial and public facilities uses in the area.

Mr Tang then visited the newly completed North Lantau Hospital, which will come into operation in phases this year and cope with the development and population growth of the North Lantau new town and the Lantau area in the long term. During his tour of the hospital, Mr Tang learnt that the Hospital Authority will maintain close communication with the Islands District Council, local residents and community organisations of Lantau Island and Tung Chung, with a view to providing quality services to residents.

Mr Tang today also met with the Islands District Council members to listen to their views on the development of the district and other issues.
