Temporary traffic and transport arrangements for tram track renewal works on Des Voeux Road Central in Central

     The Transport Department (TD) today (March 26) reminded the public that temporary traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented on Des Voeux Road Central from 10am on Friday (March 29) to 6am on April 4 (Thursday) to facilitate tram track renewal works.

     The temporary traffic and transport arrangements will include:

(A) Temporary traffic arrangements

(1) From 10am on Friday to 6am on April 2 (Tuesday), the following road sections will be temporarily closed:

* the fast lane of Des Voeux Road Central westbound from a point about 40 metres west of its junction with Ice House Street to a point about 75 metres west of the same junction; and
* the fast lane of Des Voeux Road Central eastbound from a point about 90 metres west of its junction with Ice House Street to a point about 45 metres west of the same junction.

(2) From 10am on April 2 to 6am on April 4, the following road sections will be temporarily closed:

* the fast lane of Des Voeux Road Central westbound from a point about 50 metres west of its junction with Ice House Street to a point about 75 metres west of the same junction; and
* the fast lane of Des Voeux Road Central eastbound from a point about 110 metres west of its junction with Ice House Street to a point about 75 metres west of the same junction.

(B) Temporary transport arrangements

* The bus stops of Citybus routes No. 1, 5, 5B, 5S, 10, 37A and 90B; New World First Bus route No. 18; and cross-harbour routes No. 101, 104, 113 and 811 on Des Voeux Road Central westbound outside the Landmark will be temporarily relocated about 30 metres eastward to Des Voeux Road Central westbound outside the Bank of East Asia Building.

* The bus stops of Citybus routes No. 3B, N8X and N90; New World First Bus routes No. 2, 26 and 722; and cross-harbour route No. N121 on Des Voeux Road Central westbound outside the Landmark will be temporarily relocated about 100 metres eastward to Des Voeux Road Central westbound outside Standard Chartered Bank Building.

     Notices will be put up by the bus companies to inform passengers of the above temporary transport arrangements.

     Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and follow the instructions of the Police. People planning to go to the affected area are advised to use public transport as far as possible.

     The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. The public are advised to be alert to the latest traffic news on radio and television.
