Briefing session for HKADC Nomination Exercise to be held tomorrow

     The Home Affairs Bureau (HAB) will hold a briefing session tomorrow (March 27) to brief the arts sector and the public on the arrangements and regulations of the Nomination of Representatives of Arts Interests for the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) (the Nomination Exercise). All interested parties are welcome to attend. The first briefing session was held on March 23.

     The HKADC is a statutory body set up to promote the development of arts in Hong Kong. The Chief Executive may appoint up to 10 persons nominated by the specified arts interests. The 10 specified arts interests are Arts Administration, Arts Criticism, Arts Education, Chinese Opera (Xiqu), Dance, Drama, Film Arts, Literary Arts, Music and Visual Arts. The current term of office of the HKADC members will expire on December 31, 2013. Eligible arts organisations and individual arts workers may apply to participate in the Nomination Exercise to nominate representatives of the respective arts interests for the Chief Executive's consideration for appointment as members of the HKADC for the next term.

     Details of the briefing session on March 27 (Wednesday) are as follows:

Time: 3pm
Venue: The Hall of the Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association, 136A Nathan Road, Kowloon
Language: Cantonese (with simultaneous English interpretation)

     The Nomination Exercise began on March 15. Eligible arts organisations and individual arts workers who would like to participate in the Nomination Exercise are invited to submit applications to the Nomination Agent on or before 5pm on April 25.

     "Since the establishment of the HKADC in June 1995, this year marks the eighth nomination exercise for arts representatives. More information about the arrangement of the Nomination Exercise will be explained in the briefing session to the organisations and individual applicants," an HAB spokesman said.

Phase 1: Application by arts organisations and
         individual arts workers for participation
         in the Nomination Exercise
         (March 15 to April 25)
Phase 2: Voter registration
         (end of May to early July)(tentative)
Phase 3: Candidate nomination
         (mid-July to mid-August)(tentative)
Phase 4: Electioneering and polling
         (late August to September)(tentative)
