The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene has ordered two food factories, one in Sham Shui Po and another in Tsuen Wan, to suspend business for 14 and 21 days respectively.
The operators repeatedly breached the Food Business Regulation by illegally extending the food business area.
Netsuwan, located at shop B on the ground floor at No. 39 Wong Chuk Street in Sham Shui Po, was ordered to suspend business from today (March 22) to April 4. Additionally, Fire King, situated at shop F (minor portion) on the ground floor of Tin Po Building at No. 91-97 Tai Ho Road in Tsuen Wan, was ordered to suspend business from today to April 11.
"Two convictions for illegal extension of the food business area were recorded against Netsuwan in August last year and this January. A total fine of $4,700 was levied by the court and 30 demerit points were registered against the licensee under the department's demerit points system. The contraventions resulted in the 14-day business suspension," a spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department said.
"The licensee of the food premises had a record of two convictions for the same offence in June and July last year. A total fine of $4,200 was levied and 30 demerit points were registered. The breaches led to business suspension for seven days in September last year," he added.
Regarding Fire King, the spokesman noted that four convictions for illegal extension of the food business area were recorded between August last year and January this year. A total fine of $7,250 was levied and 60 demerit points were registered against the licensee. The contraventions resulted in seven-day and 14-day business suspensions running consecutively.
The spokesman reminded licensees of food premises to comply with the Food Business Regulation or their licences could be suspended or cancelled.
Licensed food premises are required to exhibit a sign indicating that the premises are licensed in a conspicuous place near the main entrance. A list of licensed food premises is available on the FEHD's website (www.fehd.gov.hk/english/licensing/licence-type.html).
