The Department of Health (DH) today (March 18) invited local non-profit making non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to submit applications for participation in the Elderly Health Assessment Pilot Programme (Pilot Programme).

The two-year pilot programme, which aims to facilitate the early identification and intervention of risk factors and health problems as well as promote healthy ageing, will be launched by the Government in collaboration with non-profit making NGOs by providing voluntary, protocol-based and subsidised health assessment to about
10 000 elders aged 70 or above who hold valid Hong Kong Identity Cards. The Pilot Programme will comprise three components, namely baseline health assessment, one to two follow-up consultations and health promotion. It is expected to be launched in the second quarter of 2013.

Interested NGOs should meet the following requirements:

(a) bona fide non-profit-making NGOs exempted from tax under section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance (Cap 112); and
(b) currently operating medical clinic(s) with provision of health assessment or other healthcare services for the elderly.

The Administration will assess the proposals from the interested NGOs in accordance with the requirements specified in the invitation documents, their track record as a charitable organisation and in the provision of medical services, in particular health assessment or relevant services, and their capacity and preparedness in meeting the Pilot Programme's service standards and requirements.

Interested applicants can collect a set of the invitation documents from the Health Care Voucher Unit of the Department of Health, 1/F Central District Health Centre, 1 Kau U Fong, Central, Hong Kong; or download the documents from the Food and Health Bureau's website at www.fhb.gov.hk/en/news/index.html and the DH Health Care Voucher Unit's website at www.hcv.gov.hk/eng/resources_corner.htm
