Prisoner attacks officer at Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre
******************************************************

A prisoner attacked Correctional Services staff, causing injuries to an officer, at Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre yesterday (March 16).

At about 12.15pm, the officer interviewed the 40-year-old male prisoner, who had assaulted another prisoner on March 15. The prisoner suddenly used a ball pen to attack the officer. The officer stopped the prisoner and subdued him with other reinforcement staff.

The officer sustained head injuries during the incident. He was subsequently transferred to a public hospital for medical examination and was treated and discharged.

The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

The prisoner, upon examination by the medical officer of the centre hospital, was found emotionally unstable. He was then arranged to stay at a hospital cell for medical observation.

At about 2.45pm, the prisoner was found using a blanket to cover his body and looked suspicious. Officers entered the cell immediately and discovered the lower part of the prisoner was bleeding. The latter was suspected to have harmed himself. Officers immediately stopped the prisoner and transferred him to a public hospital for medical treatment.

The attacker was serving sentences for offences of indecent assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
