Update on cluster of Influenza A cases in Castle Peak Hospital
******************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson of Castle Peak Hospital (CPH) made the following announcement today (March 14):

A total of nine patients (aged 30 to 57) and one staff member in two male forensic wards had presented with respiratory symptoms since March 10 and 11. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and the test results for eight patients were positive for Influenza A. The patients concerned are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition. The staff member is currently on sick leave.

Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients confirmed with Influenza A in a male rehabilitation ward, one more 50-year-old patient in the ward has tested positive for Influenza A today. The patient is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition.

Admission to the wards concerned has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the wards are under close surveillance.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
