Inmate dies in public hospital

An inmate died in a public hospital today (March 13).
The 59-year-old male inmate was admitted to the Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre on January 9 this year. Since then, he had been receiving medical treatment in the centre hospital for his drug withdrawal symptoms. Later, in mid-January, he was sent to a public hospital. The inmate was certified dead by a medical officer at 7.43am today.
The Correctional Services Department has reported the case to the Police and the Coroner's Court for follow-up action.
The inmate was sentenced to 10 months' imprisonment for the offence of publishing an obscene article.
