Cluster of Influenza A cases in Castle Peak Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of Castle Peak Hospital (CPH) made the following announcement today (March 12):

     Three patients (aged 23 to 41) and two staff members in a male rehabilitation ward had presented with respiratory symptoms since March 5. Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patients and the test results of two patients were positive for Influenza A. The patients concerned are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition. For the two staff members, one has recovered and resumed duty while the other is on sick leave.
        
     Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

      The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
