CE saddened by death of Mr Simon Li

     The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, today (March 8) expressed his profound sadness at the passing of former Vice-Chairman of the Preparatory Committee for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and former member of the Basic Law Drafting Committee, Mr Simon Li.

     "Mr Li was former Vice-President of the Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court, and was actively involved in the establishment and preparatory work of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. He was highly respected in society. Mr Li was a fellow alumnus of my Alma Mater, King's College. Over the years, he cared for the development of our college and our Old Boys' Association and was highly regarded among the teachers, students and alumni. Mr Li was committed to charitable services and also served on various public bodies, making outstanding contributions to promoting social progress. I would like to extend my deepest condolences to Mr Li's family," the Chief Executive said.

     Mr Li was awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal in 1997.
