Old tree inside Victoria Park removed today
*******************************************

An old tree inside Victoria Park was removed today (March 7) by the Architectural Services Department to ensure public safety and prevent the spread of its brown root rot (BRR) disease to adjacent trees.

The tree, a Gleditsia fera, listed as LCSD E/32 on the Register of Old and Valuable Trees, has been infected with the BRR disease as confirmed by laboratory diagnosis.

With a very low live crown ratio and a large amount of dieback, the tree had entered into the mortality spiral and the chance of recovery was slim. The Tree Management Office of the Development Bureau recommended that the tree should be removed to contain the spread of the disease and the Expert Panel on Tree Management of the Bureau agreed with the recommendation.
