Italian dance company to perform "FireFly" in April
***************************************************

Evolution Dance Theater from Italy will stage two performances of its latest work, "FireFly", in April.

"FireFly" blends dance, acrobatics, physical theatre, video art and technology into a visual feast promising movement, magic and illusion. The performance involves a variety of strange creatures that, unfettered by the laws of physics, travel through space, melting into and breaking away from one another. A special black light technique enhances the excitement as figures mysteriously float, fly, bounce and disappear. The dance fuses the illusionary and the magical in a refreshing, engaging and memorable performance that continually excites the audience, appealing to young and old alike.

Established by American choreographer Anthony Heinl in 2008, Evolution Dance Theater creates shows that combine imaginative athleticism with charming visual effects. The strength of the company lies in an artistic vocabulary that is not limited to dance but extends to video art, illusion, lighting and special live effects.

Anthony Heinl was educated and trained in chemical sciences and technology. This diverse background has enabled him to experiment with a range of materials to create the so-called "Hollywood effect" on stage.  The stage magic also comes from the latest black light theatre technology.

"FireFly" is one of the Miracle Fun programmes presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be held at 8pm on April 5 and 6 (Friday and Saturday) at the Auditorium, Kwai Tsing Theatre.
