2013 Community Cultural Ambassador Scheme launched
**************************************************

The 2013 Community Cultural Ambassador Scheme, presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), was launched today (March 3) at Stanley Plaza.

Officiating at the launch ceremony were the Assistant Director (Performing Arts) of the LCSD, Ms Winsome Chow, and the Director (Corporate Communications) of the Link, Mr Poon Kai-tik. The launch ceremony was followed by a session comprising an introduction to the 21 Community Cultural Ambassadors' projects and performance demonstrations for some of the projects.

The 21 Community Cultural Ambassadors this year are Drama Gallery, James Mark, Stephen Shin/Ray Kwok/Pewan Chow/Alex Tam/Paul Lin, Wong Fai Puppet and Shadow, Alice Theatre Laboratory, Asian People's Theatre Festival Society, FM Theatre Power, Pants Theatre Production, Actors' Family, the Nonsensemakers, We Draman Group, ONE/EIGHT, Y-Space, DanceArt Hong Kong, Kim Sum Cantonese Opera Association, Wong Siu-sang, the Hong Kong Youth of Chinese Opera College, JohnChen Ensemble, Saturday Night Jazz Orchestra, Connie Ng Guzheng Ensemble and Windpipe Chinese Music Ensemble.

The LCSD has long been dedicated to promoting the development of local culture through audience building and art education programmes in the community and at school campuses, enabling the public to encounter, appreciate and even participate in various kinds of performing arts activities.

The department holds the Community Cultural Ambassador Scheme to further enhance the development of community art. The ambassadors conduct a wide range of outreach arts events all over the city to offer the public a brand new arts and cultural experience, cultivate people's interest and enrich popular knowledge of art, allowing arts and culture to take root in the community.

Under this scheme, local performing arts practitioners and groups are signed up through an open invitation exercise to act as Community Cultural Ambassadors and then conduct various outreach arts activities in public places. The scheme aims to provide a platform to facilitate exchange and interaction between local artists and the public, widen horizons and bring together creative ideas.

This year, the LCSD has also invited as a community partner the Link, which will provide free use of venues under its management and publicity assistance for various events. The LCSD and the Link will work together to offer unique and distinctive performances to enrich the artistic lives of local residents.

Around 580 programmes will be presented in the scheme this year. The programmes cover music, dance, Chinese opera, theatrical arts and multi-media. While most of the programmes will be free of charge, reasonable fees will be charged for serial workshops, training classes and some finale performances. Interested parties should refer to the respective programmes' publicity materials or visit www.lcsd.gov.hk/CE/CulturalService/ab/en/ccas.php.
