About 800 students from 27 schools joined the activity Jockey Club Mosaiculture Display by Students at Victoria Park today (March 2). Under the guidance of some 120 green volunteers, they worked together to help put up the spectacular mosaiculture display "Nature's Kaleidoscopic Beauty".
The design concept of the display is an insect world in a field where wild flowers bloom in spring. The display is embellished with more than 30,000 colourful flowering plants of various species, including carnation, impatiens, cuphea, kalanchoe, myosotis sylvatica and more.
Featuring 10 types of insect, the lovely plant sculptures include butterflies with colourful wings, a hardworking bee and diligent ants, a mantis with powerful arms, a firefly that glows, a ladybird with a cute round shell and more. Some of them are designed with movable parts, adding motion to the spectacular display. Together they form a wonderful kaleidoscope of nature, showing the vitality and spirit of Hong Kong. The display will be exhibited in the coming Hong Kong Flower Show.
The mosaiculture display by students activity was launched in 2003. This year, the activity is supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust as the major sponsor.
The annual Hong Kong Flower Show, organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), will be held in Victoria Park for 10 days from March 15 to 24, and from 9am to 9pm daily. This year's flower show features the dendrobium as its theme flower and "Kaleidoscope of Spring" as its theme.
In addition to this year's theme flower dendrobium and other flowering plants, the event will showcase a rich profusion of exquisite potted plants, beautiful floral arrangements and gorgeous landscape displays by local, Mainland and overseas organisations. There will also be commercial stalls selling flowers, horticultural products and fast food.
A rich diversity of educational and recreational fringe activities will also be organised for the enjoyment of visitors of all ages. They include music and cultural performances, floral art demonstrations, cooking demonstrations, plant maintenance workshops, green stalls, guided visits, recreation programmes and fun games.
Admission tickets for the Hong Kong Flower Show 2013 are available now until March 24 at the LCSD's District Leisure Services Offices and leisure venues with Leisure Link services, except for water sports centres. Tickets will also be sold at the entrance to the Victoria Park showground throughout the show period. Octopus cards can also be used to pay for admission.
Admission fees for the flower show are as follows:
- Normal rate: $14
- Children, students and senior citizens aged 60 or above: $7
- Persons with disabilities and their minders (each person can enjoy the concessionary rate with one minder only): $7
Concessionary rate from Monday to Friday:
- Free admission for senior citizens aged 60 or above.
- Free admission for persons with disabilities and their minders (each person can enjoy the concessionary rate with one minder only).
- Adults in a group of 30 persons or above will be admitted at half rate.
