16 building plans approved in January

     The Buildings Department approved 16 building plans in January, with eight on Hong Kong Island, two in Kowloon and six in the New Territories.

     Of the approved plans, eight were for apartment and apartment/commercial developments, three were for commercial developments, two were for factory and industrial developments, and three were for community services developments.

     In the same month, consent was given for work to start on 16 building projects that, when completed, will provide 65,157 square metres of gross floor area for domestic use, involving 990 units, and 38,903 square metres of gross floor area for non-domestic use. The department has received notification of commencement of work for 12 building projects.

     The department also issued 13 occupation permits, with five in Kowloon and eight in the New Territories.

     Of the buildings certified for occupation, the gross floor area for domestic use was 20,093 square metres, involving 203 units, and 61,798 square metres for non-domestic use.

     The declared cost of new buildings completed in January totalled about $2 billion.

     In addition, 13 demolition consents involving 13 building structures were issued.

     The department received 3,999 reports about unauthorised building works in January, and issued 592 removal orders on unauthorised works.
