Special traffic arrangements for Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery

     Police will implement special traffic arrangements in the vicinity of Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery from March 3 to May 1 to facilitate vehicular traffic and pedestrian movements during Ching Ming Festival.

     A Police spokesman said today (March 1) that the access road leading to Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery would be closed to all vehicular traffic except emergency vehicles between 5.30am and 8pm on March 24, 31, April 4, and 7.

     Except emergency vehicles, special route No. 14S of Kowloon Motor Bus Company, hearses, funeral vehicles and vehicles possessing valid entry permit, no vehicle will be allowed to use the access road leading to Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery between 5.30am and 6pm on March 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 29, 30, April 1, 6, 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, 28, and May 1.

     Grave-sweepers can go to the cemetery on foot via a footpath with staircases opposite MTR Tiu Keng Leng Station.  Those using wheel chairs are advised to enter the cemetery at Ko Chiu Road.

     The special bus route No. 14S will operate between southbound Lei Yue Mun Road south of St. Antonius Girls' College and Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery from 7am to 5.25pm on March 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 29, 30, April 1, 6, 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, 28, and May 1.  The drop-off point in Yau Tong will be located on Ko Chiu Road outside Lei Yue Mun Estate.

     The following temporary pick-up and drop-off points will be designated for taxi and public light bus passengers to interchange with bus route 14S or walk to the cemetery:

(1) the non-restricted zone at northbound Ko Chiu Road near Ko Yee Estate;
(2) the lay-by at southbound Lei Yue Mun Road outside Lei Yue Mun Road Playground;
(3) the non-restricted zone at northbound Lei Yue Mun Road outside Lei Yue Mun Plaza; and
(4) the non-restricted zone at northbound Lei Yue Mun Road outside Shuk Mei House, Yau Mei Court.

     The spokesman said that apart from the periods mentioned above, road closure will be implemented and special bus service will be suspended at any time if the situation warrants.

     He reminded grave-sweepers to make full use of public transport and pay attention to radio broadcast on the latest traffic situation before going to the cemetery.

     Members of the public are also urged to exercise restraint and to be courteous to the elderly and children in crowded places.
