***********************************************

The Director of Home Affairs, Mrs Pamela Tan, today (February 28) officiated at the opening ceremony of Tin Fai Road Community Hall in Tin Shui Wai, marking the availability of more community facilities for the use of residents in Yuen Long district.

Tin Fai Road Community Hall is conveniently located near housing estates and is easily accessible by public transport. With its "life in natural scenery" theme, the community hall exemplifies the concept of sustainable development, expressed in environmentally friendly designs like natural ventilation, a water wall, and a green rooftop and podium. Apart from a multi-purpose hall with a seating capacity for 450 people, there is also a conference room that can hold 30 people as well as dressing rooms. The new community hall, together with the newly-built sports centre next to it, provide diverse cultural and recreational facilities for the local community.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mrs Tan said that after years of development, Tin Shui Wai had become a mature community with around 300 000 residents. There had been strong demands for more community facilities in the district and the Tin Fai Road Community Hall could provide venues for district groups to organise various programmes that would foster neighbourhood relations as well as strengthen the sense of belonging and community bonds.

Other guests who attended the opening ceremony today were the Chairman of Yuen Long District Council (YLDC), Mr Leung Che-cheung; the Vice Chairman of YLDC, Mr Wong Wai-shun; the District Officer (Yuen Long), Mr Edward Mak; the Chairman of the District Facilities Management Committee (DFMC) under YLDC, Mr Lee Yuet-man; and the Vice Chairman of DFMC, Mr Ching Chan-ming.

Tin Fai Road Community Hall was built by the Architectural Services Department and is managed by the HAD. The community hall has been open to public reservation since December and will be formally commissioned tomorrow (March 1).

With the completion of the Tin Fai Road Community Hall, there are now five community centres or halls for public use in the Yuen Long district. The others are Tin Yiu Community Centre, Tin Shui Community Centre, Long Ping Community Hall and Tin Ching Community Hall.
