The Government today (February 26) announced appointments to the Council for Sustainable Development for a new term of two years starting from March 1, 2013.
"The Council membership represents a balanced mix of stakeholders from the key sectors of business, social service and environmental conservation. We will continue to work closely with the Council in promoting sustainable development in Hong Kong for a sustainable future for our city," a government spokesman said.
The Council advises the Government on the priority areas for promoting sustainable development and strategies that will integrate economic, social and environmental perspectives. It also seeks to facilitate community participation and promote public awareness and understanding of the principles of sustainable development.
The Council has so far implemented a number of stakeholder-led engagement processes to involve the community in active discussion of sustainability issues. The Council has also advised on the disbursement of the Sustainable Development Fund to support community projects aimed at raising public awareness of sustainable development.
