Hospital Authority releases A&E attendance statistics
*****************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The Hospital Authority has collated the attendance at the Accident & Emergency (A&E) Departments of public hospitals during the Chinese New Year holidays (February 10 to 13) for comparison with the daily average in January 2013 and the Chinese New Year holidays last year. The statistical table is attached for reference.

The HA spokesman said previous records showed that the attendance at A&E Departments would surge on the first day after a long holiday. The spokesman appealed for the understanding and co-operation of patients seeking consultation in these few days. "Priority for A&E consultations would be given to patients triaged for critical and emergency condition, while semi-urgent and non-urgent patients may need to wait longer. Non-urgent patients could consider seeking consultation at general outpatient clinics or private doctors," the spokesman said.
