Police investigating a fake press release on internet

Police today (February 8) received referral from Government department that a fake Government press release on measures to address the overheated property market was being circulated on the internet.

Commercial Crime Bureau is now investigating the case.

Police remind the public that sending malicious message on the internet not only attracts civil liability, it is also likely to commit an offence of access computer with criminal or dishonest intent under the Crime Ordinance, which is liable for five years imprisonment.

Police also appeal to the public to use the Internet lawfully and not to send malicious messages.
