Jointly sponsored by the Hong Kong Chinese Importers' and Exporters' Association and the Hongkong Hainan Commercial Association, and co-ordinated by the Home Affairs Bureau, the Lunar New Year Fireworks Display is scheduled to be held at 8pm on February 11 (Monday), the second day of the Lunar New Year, over Victoria Harbour.
A total of 23 888 firing shells will be discharged in the display from three barges in a 23-minute extravaganza consisting of eight scenes. Laser features over the external wall of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre will also be added to enhance enjoyment.
Highlights of the fireworks display include the number 8 and "Gold Yuan Bo" in the first scene, "Brilliant Future", adding festive fun to the celebration. The third scene, "Kung Hey Fat Choy", features a fireworks display in purple, red and green, plus golden fireworks moving from left to right and from right to left above Victoria Harbour to symbolise a golden snake. The sixth scene, "Loving Brings Bliss", will have an array of heart-shaped and dove-shaped fireworks as symbols of love and peace. The fireworks display will reach its climax in the last scene, "Fireworks Shining above Hong Kong", with fast and rhythmic firing of shells in gorgeous colours for 30 seconds to wish Hong Kong all the best in the coming year.
The display can be seen from many vantage points on both sides of the harbour, including Tsim Sha Tsui, the Mid-levels, Central District, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay and the Hung Hom Bypass.
To maximise their enjoyment of the display, viewers are invited to tune in to Radio Television Hong Kong Radio 4 (FM 97.6 to 98.9) for synchronised music.
In conjunction with the fireworks display, the Hong Kong Chinese Importers' and Exporters' Association and the Hongkong Hainan Commercial Association have also organised a photo contest on the Lunar New Year fireworks display to encourage more people to capture the moments of festive joy.
People are also urged to help keep public areas clean and to show respect for public property. They are also urged to show consideration in order to make the event a safe one.
