Police will implement special crowd management and traffic arrangements to facilitate worshippers visiting Che Kung Temple in Sha Tin during the Che Kung Festival period.
"A one-way pedestrian flow system will be implemented at Che Kung Temple to ensure the safety of the public. Members of the public are advised to follow the designated pedestrian route to and from the Temple and to take heed of the instructions given by Police officers on site. Worshippers are advised to observe order and be patient while waiting in a queue," a Police spokesman said.
As huge crowds of worshippers are expected, the following traffic arrangements will be implemented:
The following traffic arrangements will be in effect between 8pm on February 11 and 6pm on February 13:
1. The slow lane of the section of westbound Che Kung Miu Road between Sha Tin Tau Road and Chui Tin Street, and the slow lane of the section of southbound Chui Tin Street between Che Kung Miu Road and the entrance of Sun Chui Estate near Sun Fong House and Ng Yuk Secondary School will be closed (except for emergency vehicles);
2. The cycle track along the western riverside of Shing Mun River Channel between Tsuen Nam Road and Che Kung Miu Road, the cycle track along both sides of Che Kung Miu Road between Chui Tin Street and Sha Tin Tau Road, the cycle track inside the subway system at the junction between Che Kung Miu Road and Chui Tin Street, and the cycle track inside the subway system at the junction between Che Kung Miu Road and Sha Tin Tau Road will be closed. Cyclists may use the cycle track along the northern riverside of Shing Mun River Channel between Lion Rock Tunnel Road and Shing Wan Road to and from Sha Tin;
3. The bus and green minibus stops at westbound Che Kung Miu Road outside Lee Uk Village near Che Kung Temple will be suspended;
4. A temporary taxi drop-off point will be provided at northbound Sha Tin Tau Road near Che Kung Temple for dropping off passengers only. Taxis may pick up passengers at the taxi stands at Tsuen Nam Road near MTR Tai Wai Station or in the Tai Wai Station Public Transport Interchange; and
5. All taxis and non-franchised buses will be prohibited from entering Chui Tin Street. Taxis and non-franchised buses should pick up and drop off passengers at locations according to the instructions from Police officers on site.
The public car park adjacent to Che Kung Temple will be suspended from 7am on February 9 to 8pm on February 13, except for emergency vehicles and those authorised by Police officers on site. The car park will also be closed from 7am to 6pm daily on February 16, 17, 23, 24, and March 2 and 3.
Actual implementation of the road closure, traffic control and traffic diversions will be made by Police officers at the time depending on the traffic and crowd situation.
Police will take strict enforcement actions including multiple ticketing and towing away any illegally parked vehicles in the areas concerned without prior notice.
People are advised to make use of public transport as far as possible and should follow the instructions of Police officers on site.
