Puppet show to arouse awareness of environmental protection and conservation

     Fantasy Puppet Theatre will stage its new production, entitled "Hairy the Little Macaque", in March.

     Audiences will meet Hairy and other local wildlife inhabitants, such as the red-whiskered bulbul and the red-bellied tree squirrel, in the show for learning the importance of environmental protection and conservation.

     In the theatre production, the thick woodland where Hairy and his macaque family have lived for generations is being invaded by humans. Beautiful trees are being uprooted to make way for skyscrapers, and colourful animal sounds and birdsong are being replaced by the noise of machines. Urbanisation is destroying the ecosystem that provides Hairy's home and food. Can Hairy and his buddies escape this disaster?

     Performed in Cantonese, "Hairy the Little Macaque" is one of the Miracle Fun programmes presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD). Tickets are now available at URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis). A maximum discount of 20 per cent is offered for the Miracle Fun booking package.

     In addition, the LCSD will organise three puppetry workshops (conducted in Cantonese) to tie in with the performances. The puppeteers from Fantasy Puppet Theatre will show how the various puppets are produced and give demonstrations. Attendees will also have opportunities to learn how to control the puppets and take photos with them. The workshops are suitable for people aged 3 or above. Tickets priced at $35 for each workshop are available at URBTIX outlets. Details are as follows:
