Customs officers today (February 5) distributed leaflets to stall operators at the Victoria Park Lunar New Year Fair to remind them not to sell counterfeit goods.
Last October, Hong Kong Customs sent letters to successful bidders for Lunar New Year Fair stalls, reminding them to check cautiously about the authenticity and origin of their goods, and to verify with the relevant agents if in doubt.
The Divisional Commander (Trade Descriptions Investigation), Mr Chan Chi-keung, said today that Customs would reinforce the manpower to conduct patrols at all Lunar New Year Fairs in Hong Kong to combat the sale of counterfeit products during the Chinese New Year holidays.
Under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, it is a criminal offence to sell goods with a forged trade mark or false trade description. The maximum penalty is a fine of $500,000 and imprisonment for five years.
