The Leisure and Cultural Services Department's "Footprints of Time – Literary Figures and Their Sojourn in Hong Kong" series will present "Forum: Music in Literature" (conducted in Cantonese) in March.
At the forum, composer Dr Chan Hing-yan, also the Chairperson of the Department of Music, University of Hong Kong, and Leung Man-tao, a writer, cultural worker and commentator on topical issues, will discuss what happens when music and literature meet – and more.
Throughout the history of East and West, music and literature have come together myriad times, not simply because of the close relationship between poetry and rhythm, but also because composers down the ages have been inspired by various types of literature to create operas, songs and instrumental music such as symphonies and tone pictures. Participants will be able to learn more about the ongoing interrelationship between music in literature at the forum.
"Forum: Music in Literature" will be held at 3pm, March 23 (Saturday) at the Miller Theater, Asia Society Hong Kong Center (9 Justice Drive, Admiralty, Hong Kong). Tickets priced at $50 are now available at all URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Half-price tickets available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and the minder, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis).
A 10 per cent discount will be offered on any purchase of both the following programmes: "Forum: Music in Literature" and "A Poet and His Muse – Yu Kwang-chung's Poetry in Music".
