Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 668 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 62 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during an operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation was conducted between 7am and 7pm today (February 1) and a total of 275 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 467 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 201 for other traffic offences.  

     Thirty pedestrians and 107 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

     Statistics revealed that a total of 245 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island in January 2013, of which 90 involved pedestrian. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 48.9 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
