The Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Mr Raymond Benjamin, is visiting Hong Kong from January 25 to 29. He opened the ICAO Regional Seminar in Preparation of the Sixth Worldwide Air Transport Conference and unveiled the Education Path of the Civil Aviation Department (CAD) headquarters today (January 28).

The Seminar is organised by the ICAO and is being hosted by the CAD as the first international conference at its new headquarters from January 28 to 30. The Seminar aims at familiarising Asia and Pacific states, Special Administrative Regions and industry partners with the objectives and agenda items to be addressed by the Sixth Worldwide Air Transport Conference which will be held in Montreal, Canada, from March 18 to 22. During the Seminar, participants from 15 countries and three international organisations will review air transport development in the Asia and Pacific region, and discuss global trends and major issues in the aviation industry. As the host of this Seminar, the CAD will also exchange views with fellow ICAO member states to meet future growth and challenges of local and regional air transport.

Mr Benjamin also unveiled the Education Path of the CAD Headquarters with the Director-General of Civil Aviation, Mr Norman Lo. As the highlight of the CAD's new headquarters, the Education Path showcases interesting and educational aviation exhibits such as a radar console, a flight data recorder and historical photos. Visitors can learn more about air traffic control, flight safety and aviation history in Hong Kong, therefore increasing their knowledge and interest in the aviation industry.
