Hong Kong Public Libraries organises "Ye Si and Hong Kong Literature" talk and other activities to commemorate renowned writer

     The renowned Hong Kong writer Ye Si (Professor Leung Ping-kwan) passed away recently. To pay tribute to Ye Si, the Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will hold a talk entitled "Ye Si and Hong Kong Literature" in January as part of its monthly literary talk series.

     The talk will be held from 2.30pm to 4.30pm on Saturday (January 26) at the Lecture Theatre, G/F, Hong Kong Central Library (HKCL), with Assistant Professor of the Department of Chinese of Lingnan University Dr Mary Wong serving as moderator. The speakers discussing with the public Ye Si's contributions and sharing insights on Hong Kong literature will be the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities of the Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd), Professor Leonard Chan; the Head and Professor of the Department of Literature and Cultural Studies of HKIEd, Professor Eric Yu; and two Assistant Professors of the Department of Literature and Cultural Studies of HKIEd, Dr Au Chung-to and Dr Chan Chi-tak.

     The HKPL's collections on Ye Si's works cover various categories. An exhibition entitled "Mini Book and Manuscript Exhibition of Professor Leung Ping-kwan" will be held from now to February 28 at the Hong Kong Literature Room, 8/F, HKCL, featuring 16 of Ye Si's Chinese and English literature works, including novels, prose collections and poetry collections. Two manuscripts on his poetry and writings on Hong Kong are also on display to develop a better understanding of the professor's literature world.

     The HKPL will also launch a website, "Ye Si and Hong Kong Literature" in March, featuring an online exhibition about his literary works and recordings of the professor reciting his poems at literary talks, so that the public can gain a greater appreciation of his works.

     Ye Si (1949-2013) produced many creative literary works and promoted literature and arts education and cultural exchange. His works are diverse, including poetry, prose, drama, literary criticism, cultural research and arts education, and he gained outstanding achievements in various areas. His works have strong local characteristics and found recognition overseas. Some of the works have been translated into English, French, German, Japanese and more.
