Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 623 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 41 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during an operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation was conducted between 7am and 7pm today (January 17) and a total of 291 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 496 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 127 for other traffic offences.  

     Twenty-nine pedestrians and 112 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

    Statistics revealed that a total of 3,055 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island in 2012, of which 1,014 involved pedestrian. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 48.5 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
