Over 100 courses, ranging from Chinese and Western musical instrument classes to diverse music workshops, offer a range of interesting choices for applicants of all ages. The courses, conducted in Cantonese, will be held from March to July.

Newly launched courses for this term include "Traditional Chinese Wind Music", which introduces the unique structure, playing style, master works and great performers of traditional Chinese wind music such as bawu and hulushi. Another new course is "Wonderful Music World of 4Bs (child & parent class)", which looks at the lives and important works of four famous composers, namely Bach, Beethoven, Brahms and Bartok, through interactive activities for parents and children.

"Introduction to Music Composition" caters particularly for those who already have music theory training equivalent to Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Grade 5 and are aged 15 or above to learn the basic skills of music composition. Those who have completed the Music Office's "Introduction to Guitar Playing" and are aged 15 or above can participate in "Guitar Ensemble Playing" to learn and enjoy the fun of playing music in groups.

Other regular workshop series include harmonica, guitar and keyboard playing, vocal singing and aural training, and theory and ensemble training for Chinese musical instruments, Western strings, flute and saxophone. All are available for different age groups. The course fees for the workshop series range from $180 to $600.

The Outreach Music Interest Courses also provide basic training on the xiao, dizi, liuyeqin, pipa, zhong-ruan, yangqin, zheng, erhu, clarinet, saxophone, flute, trumpet, percussion, violin, viola and cello. The course fee is $800.

The courses will be conducted in small groups at different venues throughout Hong Kong. They are the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Sha Tin Town Hall, Tsuen Wan Town Hall, Tuen Mun Town Hall, Sheung Wan Civic Centre, Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre, Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre, Tai Po Civic Centre, Kwai Tsing Theatre, Yuen Long Theatre, Ko Shan Theatre, Hong Kong Central Library, Pei Ho Street Sports Centre (Sham Shui Po) and the Music Office's music centres at Wan Chai, Mong Kok, Sha Tin and Tsuen Wan.
