Sixty-nine drivers arrested in anti-drink driving operation

     In order to step up enforcement action against drink driving during the festive seasons, Police conducted a territory-wide anti-drink driving operation between December 14, 2012, and January 4, 2013.

     During the operation, 568 random breath test (RBT) operations were conducted and a total of 11,064 drivers were required to conduct breath tests. Forty-two drivers were unable to pass the screening breath tests (SBT). Among them, eleven drivers were later able to pass the subsequent evidential specimen analysis, and were subsequently released. Two drivers who refused to provide sample for the screening breath test were also arrested during the operations.

     Police arrested 69 drivers throughout the territory during this period, in which 15 were involved in traffic accidents.

     Drivers are reminded not to drive after consuming alcohol. Offenders will be liable to a maximum fine of $25,000, three yearsˇ¦ imprisonment and to incur 10 driving-offence points.
