Correctional officers seize suspected dangerous drugs

     Correctional officers seized a total of five small packs of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic from a remand at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre during security checks today (December 29), thereby stopping an attempt to smuggle dangerous drugs into correctional institutions.

     The 46-year-old man has been remanded since yesterday for the offence of trafficking in a dangerous drug. The case was reported to the Police.
      
     A Correctional Services Department spokesperson said, "With effective mechanisms to collect intelligence, the department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs into correctional institutions and to eradicate their presence there. We are committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

     There have been 156 seizures of dangerous drugs to date this year. Most seizures were made in reception centres.
