The Government today (December 28) announced that Professor Paul Lam Kwan-sing, has been re-appointed as the Chairman of the Advisory Council on the Environment (ACE) for two years from January 1, 2013, to December 31, 2014.
Ten new members have also been appointed to the ACE. They are Dr Gary W J Ades, Dr Billy Hau Chi-hang, Dr Hung Wing-tat, Mr Anthony Lock Kwok-on, Professor John Ng Cheuk-yee, Professor Nora Tam Fung-yee, Dr Eric Tsang Po-keung, Mr Luther Wong Lok-tak, Professor Jonathan Wong Woon-chung and Dr Eric Yip Chee-hang.
"I warmly welcome Professor Paul Lam to be re-appointed as the Chairman of the ACE and the appointment of the new members to the Council, and am looking forward to the contributions and support of all members to the development of environmental protection and conservation policy," the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, said.
"I also thank the outgoing members, comprising Ms Teresa Au Pui-yee, Ms Betty Ho Siu-fong, Mr Hans Michael Jebsen, Mr Edwin Lau Che-feng, Professor Joseph Lee Hun-wei, Ir Dr Lo Wai-kwok, Dr Man Chi-sum, Mr Tsang Kam-lam, Mr Simon Wong Ka-wo and Dr Yau Wing-kwong, for their valuable advice and contributions to the ACE during their appointment period. Particular appreciation should be extended to Mr Tsang Kam-lam, who served as the Chairman of the Environmental Impact Assessment Subcommittee of the ACE for three years, for his dedication and support to the work of the Subcommittee," Mr Wong added.
The ACE keeps the state of the environment in Hong Kong under review and advises the Government, through the Secretary for the Environment, on appropriate measures which might be taken to combat pollution of all kinds, and to protect and sustain the environment.
The appointments, published in the Gazette today, will be effective from January 1, 2013, and will last for two years.
