2012 New Year's Eve Countdown Carnival to be held at Sha Tin Park (with photos)

    The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will hold the 2012 New Year's Eve Countdown Carnival at Sha Tin Park and Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza cum City Art Square to celebrate the advent of the New Year. The carnival will start at 8.30pm on December 31 (Monday) and will continue until 12.15am on New Year's Day. Admission is free.

    This year, the carnival will showcase performances by various young talented artists. Master magician Avon Lee, who has set the Guinness World Record for the most teleportation illusions in one minute, will perform exciting magic tricks, and pop singers Jerry Liu, Jay Fung, Carrie Tam, King Lam and Brian Tse from "The Voice" will sing pop music. Peter Pong, the winner of this year's European Yoyo Championship, will give a yo-yo performance with the Team C3yoyodesign. In addition, Pui Ying Secondary School Rope Skipping Team, the winner of the Asian Rope Skipping Championships, and Veloz, the gold prize winner of the Asia Pacific Harmonica Festival, will show their talents in rope skipping and harmonica. The award-winning Ha Kwok Cheung Dragon and Lion Dance Team and the Sha Tin Wushu Troupe will deliver energetic lion dance, cheerleading and martial arts performances.

    Other award-winning artists set to perform in the carnival include the Hong Kong Baptist University Student Union DanceSport Society, the Hong Kong Drum Ensemble and others. Artists from the Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong will also present hip hop, guitar and singing, and wheelchair dance performances.

    A variety of delightful entertainment programmes will also be featured, including saxophone, African drum and ocarina instrumental performances, as well as dance, youth Cantonese opera, a marching band, a band show, animation, interactive games and a wish-making corner, creating a fascinating world for the countdown and celebrating the New Year.

    The climax of the carnival will be the countdown to 2013, and at midnight a pyrotechnic show from the roofs of Sha Tin Town Hall and Sha Tin Public Library will light up the sky.

    The LCSD urges members of the public to help keep the public areas clean and to respect public property. Aerosol sprays, metallic balloons and bottles are prohibited at the venues.
