The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) this morning (December 11) received notification from Chevron that the LPG samples taken by them from their four filling stations (located at Pokfulam Road, Fung Shing Street, Clear Water Bay Road and Sha Tau Kok Road) yesterday failed to meet the Auto LPG Specification in respect of the copper corrosion test. Chevron has ceased the sales of auto LPG at 10.30am today until further notice and has informed the trade of this arrangement.
EMSD is very concerned about the case and has asked Chevron to submit a report. Moreover, EMSD has collected LPG samples for testing from the gas terminal and LPG filling stations of Chevron today. EMSD will also strengthen LPG sampling from LPG terminals and filling stations of other LPG supply companies for quality test on the coming two days.
EMSD will continue to maintain close liaison with the trades and closely monitor if there is any impact arising from the case to the supply of auto LPG and vehicle safety. EMSD has also informed other LPG supply companies to ensure that auto LPG supply will not be affected. Up to now, there is no report of any abnormal situation.
According to the results of past inspections, Chevron has been carrying out maintenance work in accordance with the established procedures, including cleaning of LPG tanks and strainers, etc. EMSD will follow up on the cause of the incident and request Chervon to take appropriate measures to re-open their filling stations as soon as possible.
The EMSD spokesman said, "If an LPG vehicle is found with abnormal operation or suspected of malfunctioning, the vehicle driver should as soon as possible arrange for the vehicle to be inspected and repaired according to the maintenance manual of the vehicle manufacturer by a competent person with relevant training and experience."
