"This is Hong Kong" multimedia mobile application offers the best of Hong Kong (with photos)
************************************************************

The latest edition of "This is Hong Kong" can now be browsed with enhanced functions at any time on iPads, iPhones, Android tablets and Android phones.

The attractive new multimedia design of this free application (app) featuring Hong Kong's skyline, people and buildings is inspired by traditional paper-cut and shadow puppet art. On the landing page users are greeted with animated paper-cut buildings and people dotting the screen.

The new Guide Map has been extensively enhanced, with pins showing interesting spots on Hong Kong Island, in Kowloon, the New Territories and outlying islands. Simply by clicking the pins users can obtain information about these locations including photos or even videos.

When a user clicks the new Virtual Reality function and then a place of interest, the place will immediately come into focus. Where a place covered in the publication is within 300 metres of the user, a purple bubble will pop up to show its direction. Information on that particular place will be shown with a further click.

Produced by the Information Services Department, "This is Hong Kong" is themed on the city's core attributes, showing what makes Hong Kong a diverse, dynamic and cosmopolitan city closely connected to the rest of Asia and the world while also offering a secure environment to live and work.

The booklet is a handy resource showing Hong Kong's great variety, including its scenic hiking trails, amazing rock formations and huge biodiversity alongside a bustling international finance, trading, tourism and transport hub with impressive skyscrapers. It also offers information about the city's economy, profiles of local people who have achieved world fame, and interesting trivia.

The booklet is particularly useful for potential visitors to Hong Kong and local residents who would like to introduce the city to relatives and friends abroad or across the border. The app can also help users access a wealth of information on Hong Kong's unique characteristics and competitiveness.

"This is Hong Kong" is also available in a web-based version for online browsing. All electronic versions contain hyperlinks to websites on aspects of particular interest - city festivals, theme parks, universities, museums, sports and arts events, local transport and many more.
