*********************************************************

The 2012 Fight Crime Conference was held at the Police Headquarters today (December 1). Members of the Fight Crime Committee (FCC) and 18 District Fight Crime Committees (DFCCs) exchanged views on topics relating to law and order in Hong Kong and measures to fight crime.  The conference chairperson, Ir Edgar Kwan, appealed to the public to unite and work together to combat crime, making Hong Kong a continuous safe and harmonious place for happy living and work.

A biennial event organised by the FCC, the conference provides a forum for members of the FCC and the DFCCs to exchange views. The theme of this year's conference is "Fighting Crime Together for a Safe and Secure Hong Kong". The Chief Secretary for Administration and the Chairperson of the FCC, Mrs Carrie Lam, delivered her keynote address at the conference.

To herald this year's conference, five pre-conference discussion group meetings were organised for members of the 18 DFCCs to deliberate on various law and order issues, namely online crime and commercial crime, youth crime and youth drug abuse, "quick cash" crimes, burglary and home security, and domestic violence. The five discussion groups presented the outcome of their discussions at the conference.

In addition, nearly 400 FCC and DFCC members attending the conference exchanged views and shared opinions with the heads of relevant policy bureaux and departments on the law and order situation and measures to fight crime.

Other officials attending the conference included the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing; the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung; the Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok; the Secretary for Education, Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim; the Commissioner of Police, Mr Tsang Wai-hung; the Commissioner of Correctional Services, Mr Sin Yat-kin; the Commissioner of Customs and Excise, Mr Clement Cheung; and the Director of Home Affairs, Mrs Pamela Tan.
