Fatal traffic accident in Lantau North

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Lantau North this afternoon (November 30) in which a 54-year-old taxi driver was killed.

     About 1.05pm, a taxi driven by a 54-year-old man was travelling along Cheung Tung Road towards Tung Chung while a light goods vehicle (LGV) driven by a 23-year-old man was travelling towards the Disneyland. When reaching near Yam O, the taxi reportedly collided with the LGV.

     Both drivers and three male and two female passengers aged between 54 and 69 of the LGV were injured and conveyed to Princess Margaret Hospital. The taxi driver, who sustained serious injuries, was certified dead at 1.53pm.

     The LGV driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is still being detained for enquiries.

     Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories South, are underway.
