The Research Grants Council (RGC) will present the fourth public lecture for this year next Saturday (December 8) at the Hong Kong Science Museum with a theme entitled "Sustainable Environment and Energy Research".

The lecture is co-organised with the Hong Kong Science Museum. The RGC has invited Associate Professor of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Dr K S Lam and the Chair Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Hong Kong, Professor C Y Jim, to share their research findings and knowledge with the public. Details are as follows:

Time: 2.30pm to 4.30pm
Venue: Lecture Hall, Hong Kong Science Museum

Dr Lam will give a talk entitled "Regional Air Pollution in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta Region". The lecture will give an overview of research activities on photochemical ozone and haze of Hong Kong and the adjacent Pearl River Delta in the past 20 years. Complex scientific issues involved in the regional air pollution and mitigation strategy for this region will be discussed.

Professor Jim will deliver a lecture entitled "Multiple Environmental and Energy Benefits of Green Roofs in Compact Cities". The lecture will introduce the findings at five research green roofs in urban areas. The multiple benefits of green roofs will be discussed comprehensively in the popular science approach.

Since 2009, leading scholars in their respective fields have been invited to deliver public lectures organised by the RGC. These lectures aim at arousing the public's interest in local research development.
