******************************************************

The Civil Aid Service (CAS) 60th Anniversary Grand Parade was held at the Victoria Park today (November 25). The Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok, was the Reviewing Officer. In addition to members and cadets of CAS, representatives of government departments and guests from the Mainland and overseas were also invited to the event in celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of the Service.

The splendid parade was composed of more than 1 000 members from various CAS regions/units and cadets.  Demonstrations of different CAS skills and services were also included, allowing the audience to have an overall picture of the duties and services performed by CAS.

Over the past 60 years, volunteers of CAS have been dedicated to serving the Hong Kong community with the motto "Provide Emergency Relief, Serve the Community".  Examples include managing the Vietnamese boat people centres for 25 years, assisting in managing isolation centres during the outbreak of SARS in 2003, maintaining order for the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events, managing quarantine centres during the epidemic of the human swine influenza in 2009, and fighting vegetation fires during the hill fire season and rescuing missing hikers on usual days, etc.
