Second meeting of Long Term Housing Strategy Steering Committee held
******************************************************

The Long Term Housing Strategy Steering Committee held its second meeting today (November 22).

Members were briefed on the existing housing policies as a prelude to future discussions on this subject. They also agreed on key issues to be examined at future Steering Committee meetings, including an assessment of the waiting list for public rental housing, an assessment of the changing housing needs of different groups in the community and measures to address and prioritise such needs, a review of both public and private housing demand, and measures to optimise the use of public housing resources.

"Given limited public housing resources, priorities inevitably need to be set to provide assistance to those with the most imminent and pressing housing needs," the Secretary for Transport and Housing, Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, who is also Chairman of the Steering Committee, said.

To collect information and views from specific groups in the community on their housing needs and related issues, Members also agreed to commission a Focus Group Study from January to March 2013.

Ends/Thursday, November 22, 2012
Issued at HKT 18:50
