******************************************************

Two lovely bees show their courage by helping others, three good friends have to forsake their ideals when facing different fates, a ferry pier is deserted yet full of profound memories, and a donkey takes an eye-opening tour of Paris. These are just some of the subjects of winning works in the Awards for Creative Writing in Chinese 2012.

The prize presentation ceremony for the Awards for Creative Writing in Chinese 2012, organised by the Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, was held today (November 22) at the Hong Kong Central Library (HKCL).

The 47 winning works in six categories were selected from more than 1,400 entries.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chairman of the Public Libraries Advisory Committee, Mr Cheung Chi-kong, pointed out that the Awards provides a creative platform for Chinese literature lovers to show their talents in writing.

In addition to being a platform for discovering new writers with potential over the years, the Awards has also collected many outstanding works. The awarded works of the winners, first runners-up and second runners-up in the different categories will be published by the HKPL for public appreciation.

The Awards for Creative Writing in Chinese was launched by the HKPL in 1979 to promote the vigorous development of Hong Kong literature and to raise the public's interest in creative writing in Chinese. The Awards consists of six categories, including essays, fiction, poetry, literary criticism, children's stories and children's picture stories. With this year's competition, the HKPL organised five talks with renowned writers, literati and scholars to share their experiences in creative writing.

The winning works will be on display to the public at the Exhibition Gallery of HKCL from tomorrow (November 23) to December 9. The valuable comments and suggestions made by the judges on the entries will be consolidated into an Adjudication Summary Booklet (in Chinese only), which, as in previous years, will be made available at the Reference Library of HKCL, City Hall Public Library, Kowloon Public Library, Tsuen Wan Public Library, Sha Tin Public Library and Tuen Mun Public Library for public reference.
