Music Office to launch 2012-13 School Care Subsidy Scheme
*********************************************************

Music can not only soothe a person's mind, but also enlighten one's spirit. School students are invited to participate in the 2012-13 School Care Subsidy Scheme to cultivate their civic awareness for serving the community and extend their care and good wishes to the underprivileged through musical performances.

The deadline for application is December 12.

More than 80 schools have participated in the School Care Subsidy Scheme since its launch by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department in 2009. The scheme, solely sponsored by Sino Group, provides subsidies to help music groups from primary, secondary, special, international and tertiary schools to organise music activities for the underprivileged.

The students can combine music with other art forms in their performances to enrich programmes in a creative way, and the scheme also aims to build up students' team spirit and organisational abilities during the creative process.

The maximum amount of subsidy is $2,000 for each activity to cover costs including transportation, instructors' allowances and more.

Successful applicants must complete their performances between December 2012 and June 8, 2013. The outstanding teams will be invited to give a performance and share their experiences in a gala concert at the Sino Group's shopping mall Olympian City 2 on July 6, 2013. All successful participants in the scheme will be awarded certificates of commendation at the concert presentation ceremony.

Application forms are now available at all music centres of the Music Office. They can also be downloaded from the website: www.lcsd.gov.hk/CE/CulturalService/MusicOffice/en/events_2012_11_16.php. Completed forms can be submitted by post, by fax or in person to the Music Office Hong Kong Music Centre.

All applications will be evaluated based on their feasibility, ingenuity and interactive elements as well as the group's organising experience. Applicants will be notified of the results within a week after the closing date.
