Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 592 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 43 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during an operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation concluded at 7pm today (November 19) and a total of 273 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic blackspots on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 468 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 124 for other traffic offences.

     Statistics revealed that a total of 2,499 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to October this year, of which 839 involved pedestrians. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 50.3 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
