Hong Kong Customs seizes cocaine at airport (with photos)

     Hong Kong Customs yesterday (November 18) intercepted a male passenger arriving from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and who had been in transit at São Paulo and Dubai before his arrival at the Hong Kong International Airport. Customs officers found in his baggage about 3.6 kilograms of liquid cocaine, with an estimated market value of about $3.9 million, concealed in eight shampoo, conditioner and lotion bottles.

     The arrested man, aged 31, claimed to be a factory worker. He was charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Court tomorrow (November 20).

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is up to life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
