Free exhibition on colourful climbing plants at Kowloon Park tomorrow
************************************************************

To arouse public interest in horticulture and enhance awareness of greening, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will hold a horticulture education exhibition titled "Colourful Climbers", tomorrow (November 17) and on Sunday (November 18) from 10am to 4pm at the Arcade of Kowloon Park. Admission is free.

Rooted in the soil, climbing plants use other supports to grow. They use tendrils, unusually positioned roots or sucker-like discs to hold onto other plants or supports, or twine round the stems of other plants. Their petals come in a variety of colours like red, pink, orange, purple, yellow and white. Climbers are widely used for vertical greening, can beautify fences, wall surfaces and concrete structures, and also provide shade under arbours and pergolas.

Descriptive display panels will enable members of the public to learn more about the categories, characteristics and functions of climbers. They will also introduce tips for planting including advice on ideal temperature, sunlight, water and growing materials.

Games stalls will be set up during the exhibition at the Kowloon Park Arcade. Visitors can also share the fun of pot-planting under the guidance of horticulture instructors.

Talks in Cantonese entitled "Introduction to colourful climbers" and "Introduction and planting of edible plants" will be held at the Secondary Hall of Kowloon Park Sports Centre. Admission tickets are required.
