Special traffic and transport arrangements for public procession in Wan Chai and Central Districts on November 18
***********************************************************

     The Transport Department (TD) today (November 15) reminded the public that special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented in Wan Chai and Central Districts from about 9.30am this Sunday (November 18) to facilitate the holding of a public procession.

     The procession will depart from Southorn Playground for its destination at Central Government Offices in Tamar, via Hennessy Road westbound, Queensway westbound, across Queensway eastbound, Rodney Street, Harcourt Road westbound, Harcourt Road eastbound and Tim Mei Avenue northbound.

     The special traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:

Road closure
------------

     The following roads will be closed from about 9.45am onwards:

(1) The section of Hennessy Road westbound between Luard Road and Johnston Road;
(2) Rodney Street;
(3) Queensway eastbound (intermittent closure);
(4) The section of Harcourt Road westbound between Harcourt Garden carpark exit and Tamar Street;
(5) The fast lanes of Harcourt Road westbound between Tamar Street and Cotton Tree Drive;
(6) The section of Harcourt Road eastbound between Tim Wa Avenue and Tim Mei Avenue;
(7) Tim Wa Avenue southbound (except vehicles heading for Chief Executive Office and Central Government Offices car park); and
(8) The section of Edinburgh Place southbound between Lung Wo Road and Connaught Road Central.

Public transport services
-------------------------

     A total of 47 bus routes and four green minibus routes operating in the affected areas will be temporarily diverted. Admiralty (East) Public Transport Interchange will also be temporarily suspended until the related closed roads are re-opened. The public transport operators concerned will arrange publicity to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements.

     Due to extensive road closure, the TD anticipates that the traffic in Wan Chai and Central Districts will be very congested on the day. Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and follow the instructions of the Police. Members of the public who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport services.

     The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. Motorists and the public are advised to watch out for the latest traffic news broadcast by TV and radio channels.

     Details of the special traffic and transport arrangements are available at TD's website (www.td.gov.hk). For further queries, please contact the 1823 Call Centre (Tel: 1823).
