Twelve nominations for Labour Advisory Board election of employee representatives

     The Labour Department received 12 valid nominations of candidates from registered employee unions during the nomination period from October 18 to November 5, 2012 for the election of five employee representatives to the Labour Advisory Board (LAB) for the next two-year term starting in January 2013. The election will be held on December 8 (Saturday) at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

     The candidates, listed in the order of nominations received, are:

* Mr Leung Chau-ting
  Chief Executive Officer,
  Hong Kong Federation of Civil Service Unions

* Mr Chung Kwok-sing
  Chairman,
  Hong Kong Civil Servants General Union

* Mr Ng Chau-pei
  Chairman,
  Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions

* Mr Lee Tak-ming
  General Secretary,
  Hong Kong and Kowloon Trades Union Council

* Mr Wong Kwok-keung
  Secretary,
  Hong Kong Housing Department Employees General Union

* Mr Chau Siu-chung
  Treasurer,
  The Federation of Hong Kong and Kowloon Labour Unions

* Mr Leung Chi-kwong
  Chairman,
  The General Union of Hong Kong Civil Aid Service Junior Officers

* Mr Wong Wai-yin
  Vice Chairman,
  The General Union of Hong Kong Civil Aid Service Junior Officers

* Mr Ng Chi-wai
  Executive Committee,
  The General Union of Hong Kong Civil Aid Service Junior Officers

* Mr Chan Chung-luk
  Executive Committee,
  The General Union of Hong Kong Civil Aid Service Junior Officers

* Mr Chiu Yu-kei
  Executive Committee,
  The General Union of Hong Kong Civil Aid Service Junior Officers

* Mr Cheung Kam-fai
  Vice President,
  Government Educational Staff Union

     A total of 404 employee unions registered as electors have appointed representatives to vote in the election.

     "The authorised representatives may cast their votes at the polling station at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre between 11am and 4pm on the election day of December 8. They must produce their identity documents for voting," a spokesperson for the department said.

     A representative of the Registry of Trade Unions and the candidates will be present on the election day to supervise the counting of votes. The Assistant Commissioner for Labour, Miss Mabel Li, will act as Returning Officer.

     The LAB is a tripartite consultative body comprising representatives of employees, employers and the Government to advise the Commissioner for Labour on labour matters.
