Police open fire in Lantau District

      Police are investigating a Police open fire case in which a 32-year-old expatriate man was injured in Lantau District in the small hours of today (November 10).

      About 2.30am, Police received a report by a 32-year-old woman that she had a dispute with her 32-year-old expatriate boyfriend who was suspected to be drunk and was holding knives outside a building in Caribbean Coast, Lantau District. Police officers sped to the scene and located the man.

      The man, holding a beef knife and two fruit knives, was hurting himself and attempted to attack the police officers.

      After giving several verbal warnings to the man but in vain, a police sergeant fired one shot at the man.

      Sustaining a gunshot wound to his left inner thigh and a cut wound on his right thigh, the man was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital in conscious state.

      Police seized three knives at scene. The man was arrested for possession of offensive weapon and is being detained pending further enquiries.

      Investigations by District Crime Squad of Lantau District are proceeding.
